The Curry Mallet Cake Tin!

Our customers are very discerning when it comes to cakes. Everybody has their own favourite and always let us know if it hasn't had an airing on the counter for a while. We usually have a selection of 3 or 4 cakes available in the shop and are also very happy to do orders for celebrations, birthdays and other occasions. Here are a few notes on some of our best loved cakey numbers.Curry Mallet Village Shop

Coffee and Walnut
A real classic, this always looks very impressive when first placed in the cake display unit. The secret is to keep it moist and cut the bitterness of the coffee with just a touch of cocoa.
ANZAC Flapjacks
Flapjacks made to a special recipe, drawn up for the Aussie and New Zealand troops fighting in WW1. With golden syrup and coconut they give a richer, fuller taste.
Hummingbird
Everything a hummingbird likes, apparently; pineapple, coconut and banana. TCurry Mallet Village Shopruly yummy, moist and flavoursome.
Chocolate Brownies
Our most popular cake, always sells out when it appears! A crunch to the top and chewy centre ideal for cheering up the most miserable teenager, I have discovered.

Fruit Cake
Another shop fave. The fruit is seasoned in tea and pepped up with a decent measure of brandy. Fantastic with a good cup of tea.
Apple & Date Cake
A mix of fruit soaked in earl grey tea gives this apple cake a deep flavour, full of autumn richness
Ginger Crunch
Even if you’re not a fan of ginger you’ll love this zingy slice.
Lemon Drizzle
This recipe was given to me by a friend in Auckland, New Zealand called Julie. She used to spend most of her time trying to fill the hollow legs of her 3 hulking rugby-playing boys.
Raspberry & Coconut SliceCurry Mallet Village Shop
This gem combines shortcake, a layer of raspberry and a toasted coconut topping.
Bakewell Slice
I’ve based this tray bake on a bakewell tart but with a shortbread base and a cherry jam filling. Everyone seems to like it this way!
Chocolate Fudge Cake
This was my Auntie Mary’s (of East Ham) speciality and it was always my favourite. In fact she even made 4 tiers of it for our wedding cake! Despite my begging her she only finally gave me the recipe on my 21st birthday. I’ve made it hundreds of times since in various countries for all sorts of occasions
Sticky Toffee Cake
The ultimate comfort food. With white chocolate chips and rich toffee sauce this works as a cake or warm with custard or ice cream.
Curry Mallet Village ShopCakes to Order
We're delighted to do special cakes for birthdays, weddings and occasions. We can provide anything from a simple sponge or fruit number to something rather more particular - as can be seen here!
Lamingtons
A traditional favourite in the Antipodes. I don’t make these often and when I do we put out an alert to our local Aussies. If you saw the state of my kitchen after you’d know why they don’t get an outing too often but they are yummy.( I put jam in the middle .. don’t tell the Aussies!)
Chocolate Orange Cake
This is a great favourite of the” Cake King”, Postman Andy Ford. Andy is a fine judge of all things cakey and he puts this in his top three - although his favourite cake always seems to be the one he’s eating at the time.
Chocolate Wot Not
I started doing this one as a Friday afternoon after school treat; all swirly and bobbly it’s fun to make too. It had no name until daughter Verity’s friend Millie came up with “Wot Not” one day and it seemed to fit.
Victoria SpongeCurry Mallet Village Shop
This is the first cake we all start learning to make whether in fairy cake or sponge form. It seems a must of any childhood to fight over who’s licking the bowl and with butter cream and strawberry jam filling there is nothing more English. I made it once for a bunch of British au pairs I met when I lived in Italy and it brought on a flood of homesick blubbering .... needless to say next time I just opened the Chianti!
